The styles of the characters changes quite dramatically from the first to the later chapters. I remember reading that the manga changed after the anime was released. And for the better in my opinion. This is a classic series, and well worth reading. Yeah the firts chapters of the saga are truly bad.... but if you continue, you'll realize that from chap. 30 (or 31) all change, and the myth: manga is better than anime become real in ah my goddess. Nice lighthearted manga to read without the superfluous and cliche "Fan Service" found in many other romance/comedy manga. Also has a some really funny moments from time to time. But it is still a great manga that is very enjoyable, also because its old and spans alot of time it intresting to see how things change to keep up with the times, eg Laserdisks were shown in an early chapter.
