I almost shyed away at the first (early) sign of gore, but I'm now hooked on the manga (and just read half in a day)! This story is really about hope, betrayal, wits, love... and of course, people killing each-other. It's actually quite realistic, in a hardcore Lord of the Flies way. This manga is very intense in all respects. It covers a very detailed and well thought out story. If SHOULD offend, murder, rape, betrayal, etc are ALL very negative things. The plot of the manga falls somewhere between the motion picture and the book. It arises many emotions when reading it, such as anger, fear, sorrow, hope, ect. If not for the courage of certain members, this series wouldn't be what it is. What is the series? Humanity at it's best, and humanity at it's worst. Trust, betrayal, love, pain, hate, you name it, this mangas got it. Unfortunately it's not done, and we have to wait for it to be released/translated. This manga is based on a highly controversial book written by Koushun Takami. It's a thriller based on an irresistible premise: a class of junior high school students are selected by a government program, thrown on an island and are given weapons. The only way off this island is to kill everyone else and be the last person standing, thus the name, Battle Royale. The manga runs away from the original book at many places, giving very unique stories to some of the characters that make them more interesting. With that said lets look at it in another way. The story is about a future Japan where the youth and the goverment are in conflicts. To gain more respect among the youth the goverment arranges once every year, a competition where a random class has to battle to the death untill there is only one man left. This manga is twisted, very twisted. It will disgust you, make you angry and make you sad. This manga is emotionally packed, and tells the horrible story of an unlucky class that has to go through this battle. The characters is very intressting and develop well within the progress of the story. So if you want an action packed manga, with loads of violance, explict scenes and loads of sad moments. But most of all, it is so full of emotions from the students. Either you hate it or love it. I LOVE IT! -------------------------- |
