I personally love the shows better because this is the only anime that has made me cry in almost every episode, it's a brilliant story and very fascinating! I recommend anyone to read it, but also try to watch the shows that come on Monday-Wednesday 12:00 pm on cartoon network, and new episodes on saturdays at 10:30 pm. Involves alchemy, a kind of scientific theory of 'equal trade' which can trade something to get something for equal value. Awesome manga with lots of twists and attention-grabbing plots. The manga plays on the idea of alchemy, the idea of equivalent trade: You have to present something of equivalent value to get something. The brothers' journey to get the Philosopher's Stone reveals their characters, both clear and hidden, to each other. I like the storyline, the play of emotions and concept. A minus part is the fighting scenes - they're all the same. Those of you who watched the anime, you're in for a surprise if you read the manga - they have completely different storyline... Well, the basis for the story is the same but the development is different. And one of the major bad guys in the manga is a major good guy in the anime - how different can it be? The plot is much more different than the anime, however still managed to be outstandingly well-written. The Plot-twist will totally threw you off! FullMetal Alchemist is one of a kind, you will not find any other story like this, ever! The artwork ia nicely drawn, though it doesn't display gourgeous drawings (as typical of most of shonen mangas). But Arakawa-sensei pay it off with the fascinating plot-line as well as his extremely detailed background research.
